HOME MAINTENANCE:

The home has been used as a seasonal summer beach house so it has only seen seasonal use since the owner purchased the home in 2011.  It has been maintained regularly and recently had a whole home generator set-up installed.  The roof and gutters have been checked annually and the owner maintains an annual yard contract for lawn and beach care.  The owner is what we like to call an "open checkbook owner" who has maintained regular service contracts to check on the property annually with pest control, annual roof surveys, annual water treatment checks, etc.  This level of care shows in the maintained quality of the home.

LOCATION:

Magnolia Avenue is located in the historic Arundel on the Bay community which was founded in 1890 as a summer vacation retreat for wealthy D.C. residents who were headed to the beach before the days of the Bay Bridge.  At the southern most tip of the Annapolis Neck, Arundel on the Bay sticks out towards Thomas Point Lighthouse (built in 1875) and has all the charm of a secluded and private neighborhood, but is still just 10 minutes from the heart of downtown Annapolis.  You can enjoy the faint sounds of the lighthouse fog horn on those rare foggy nights.  The peninsula ends at the mouth of Fishing Creek which is regularly dredged to maintain a 6ft. depth for the Coast Guard station at the back of the creek.  The community beach and pier look over the mouth of the creek and south down the bay.

The house is situated right on the tip of this point and gets to enjoy the premium views and wonderful Bay breezes.  Built in 1936, the home was one of the earlier properties in the neighborhood which was dominated by summer cottages until an influx of year-round homes were built in the 40s during WWII when the Naval Academy in downtown Annapolis saw a boom in growth.  Until 1952 when the Bay Bridge was built, Annapolis and it's waterfront suburbs were where the DC elite "went to the beach" for the weekend.  A train line and ferry system from Baltimore made it one of the premiere beach destinations by 1900.  That beach house and resort charm has carried through today.

Arundel on the Bay is a unique neighborhood with a continued sense of community.  All of the neighborhood streets end in neighborhood parks, both on the Chesapeake Bay side of the point and the Fishing Creek side.  There are also neighborhood walking paths along the Bay as well as wooded walking paths across the neighborhood.  Residents are all welcome to use the pier, boat ramp, and community parks and beach, continuing the "beach community" feel of the early 1900s.  While some homes have been renovated or completely rebuilt, some of the original beach homes still stand tall today and still serve as weekend retreats for the original families.
